Damsel in distress here- 90,000 miles and runs perfectly. My front brakes (mostly passenger side) have been a little 'grindy' for a few days, was waiting to get paid to get them fixed. Grinding would be bad, then not so bad, then bad again. Yesterday into today it was grindy while I wasn't braking.
Today I was parked at a gas station parking spot. As I was going to reverse out, I went about a foot or so and there was an obnoxiously loud squealing sound and my brakes engaged. I thought it came from the rear passenger side.. about 90% sure.
I was parked by the air so I HAD to move.. so I squealed my way slowly in reverse -about 5 feet- and then squealed loudly about 20 feet forward into a different spot. There was one very dark skid mark leading to my front passenger. The flat shiny thing that looks like a vinyl record, that I can see through my rim, has indents scraped in 2 places.
My phone was on the fritz (what a day) so I couldn't Google what to do. I started pumping my brakes a bit and rolling slowly forward a bit, backward a bit with the engine running. I heard faint metal ' tinkling' sound on the front passenger side. Now I have barely any brakes, I was riding the ebrake (which only locks in park I guess?) Just to barely be able to stop.
Got it towed to my house. There's a shop here, with every kind of tool and jack, etc. I can afford whatever parts, but YouTube and I will be doing the labor... Unless that's a bad idea? Honestly I just need advice, and it's hard to trust a mechanic I'm not dating lol, I don't want to get ripped off. If someone could please tell me what is wrong, what I need to do, where I should get the parts, and what to buy, I would greatly appreciate it. It would help narrow down what to YouTube.

OK, first lesson... grinding means stop driving immediately.
It appears you kept driving this LONG after it started grinding. I know, everyone says it just started grinding.
I would guess at this point that the pad wore down so badly that it came right out if the bracket and now you have put the caliper piston right up against the ground up rotor and now the caliper has popped the piston out and probably dumped brake fluid out everywhere.
At this point you are probably looking at new calipers, rotors and pads at a minimum, maybe more.

! Blinkerfluidchick92 ! Choose you own user names I think I saw you over by the "Pine scented muffler bearings" yesterday?
Just expect the whole deal for front brakes now probably add a tow. Basics for anyone here is try to know where your brakes and wearing items in your vehicle(s) is at prevents these sudden failures glad didn't end up in an accident far most costly or deadly over basics.
The good news here is just that this didn't hurt anyone and should be less costly to do BOTH side and of course check rear ones too stay ahead of this stuff is far less disruptive and costly than this will be,

Thanks for the advice, guys! I got the wheel off myself. I took one look at the situation, however, and decided that since I value my life, I'll let someone else do it. Called a friend with the know-how, and they got all 4 done in a snap. I think I'll stick to detailing. Appreciate you guys! Now, to find a single mechanic....
