2003 Honda Civic brake lines rusted Sign In

My brakes recently started acting up on my 2003 Honda Civic LX Coupe. I took it in to a brake shop and they told me that all of the brake lines underneath the car where they attach to the proportion valve were rusted out and there is a leak. They quoted me for $900 to hand make the brake lines. Does this sound fair? I’m trying to spend the least amount of money possible. Any tips or recommendations? Thanks in advanced.

It's no joy - trust me. A responsible shop would almost HAVE to suggest doing all of them with a disclaimer that's not all there is that rusted out brake lines can and probably do add to that.
Things like at each wheel the calipers (wheel cylinders for rear on some) may not bleed out or bleeders bust off. Those are replaced in pairs. Flex hoses many bust to replace those and it never ends.

The cheap way out is just fix the section that's showing leaking now is seriously hard to know if that ends the problems but can work, just maybe quickly you'd have to do that yourself probably as shops are so reluctant knowing it too can just be the start on one more item after another to be able to bleed it out is the issue.
Cheap parts if nothing went wrong to make just line up a fair amount of practice to bend dirt cheap line so it doesn't rub and fail quickly.

Sport: The real risk is this car not stopping by total surprise and an accident that can kill! NOT acceptable.
Last: This car isn't as known for this problem so suggest a general rust problem exists for other lines! Fuel and vapor lines. Auto trans if equipped, those too. Body parts that holding it together and the parts that hold wheels in place.

Tough story but most cars end this way starts with one silly thing (so you may think) now marks serious problems it's rare to be only one at one spot out of the blue.

Good luck it's no joy said first that price is about right as a guess IMO,

Yes, the price is fair, assuming they are fixing it correctly and replacing all the lines completely in one piece and not simply splicing in a small piece.

First off, there is only one acceptable method to splice a brake line and that is using a double flared, threaded union. NO COMPRESSION FITTINGS!

The brake line should be one piece all the way to the next fitting for all lines repaired.

It's a lot of work and that is why the price is so high.

Here is a video that shows you the process. He is using a rather expensive tool to make the flaring easier but they do sell cheaper tools for that. They just aren't as convenient to use.
