2014 Kia Optima veers left when brakes applied... Sign In

I had new brakes put on November 2021 via my mechanic. I immediately had an unrelated power steering issue that took the Kia dealership four times to get right. Amid the few hours at a time my power steering worked one the next few weeks, I noticed a slight pull to the left when I would apply my brakes.

Power steering fixed, but for a year now, I've been battling this veering issue when I brake.

Could it be a caliper not working properly? I had new calipers and rotors put on too at the time.

OK 1st why did you wait? Do you have a reciept for what was replace a couple years ago?

I'll list out what you can do is look at fronts (wheels - both) you can see brake pad wear should look the same both sides.

List of things that cause that is yes a caliper frozen or pin that doesn't work on left side at all it would both pull and wear funny.

Other is the brake flex hose can be like a one way valve inside apply braking then doesn't release it.

Any which way it has to be fixed if you aren't going to do the work just tell the tech what it doing.

Look for if brackets were done or not that's my highest guess the cause if not right away is usually exposed to too much water + or wasn't greased and cleaned up the last time,

There are a few things that could cause A brake pull, defective pads, bad surface on a rotor, a binding caliper, etc, Or even something unrelated to the brakes, Like a loose or defective front end part.

Are you diagnosing this problem yourself or the shop doing it?

I'm going to take it into the shop here pretty soon.

Thank you for the reply. My mechanic is a good guy. I was on record pretty quickly to get it looked at. He'll likely fix it for free. I just hate not having my car for the period he usually has it. He's pretty busy.

Great. If evidence found I suggest both sides equally. Just FYI I don't do this much anymore but involved. OMG the problem frequently was parts were just not good right away. It isn't helping you or the shop/ech nor please the parts source.

Good luck it needs doing shouldn't take more than a day likely if parts are in stock can't know that yet,

Tom
