ABS activates intermittenly at speeds less than 5mph Sign In

Have a 2002 Yukon XL SLT 1500 and lately at slow speeds like when pulling into a parking space the ABS activates.
Doesn't happen all the time, do the sensors need to be cleaned or reset to the computer that would clear up this problem.

Yeah, you wish.

No you have a bad sensor somewhere and you will have to replace it. On that truck it is part of the wheel bearing so you have to replace the hub assembly. You will probably need a professional level scan tool to be able to monitor the wheel speeds to determine which wheel it is.

Re: ABS activates intermittenly at speeds less than 5mph Sign In

? What makes you think this is ABS at all at such a low speed - I'm asking?
This vintage of GM truck, not all but several had a serious problem with the little drum brake inside rear rotors never being right from new then nobody periodically cleans out untold (how it's used totally matters) dust, dirt, debris inside there or rusted or broken parking brake parts.
It's an issue with others this one if not tended to is/was a problem.
#1 is does parking brake work or work at all? Asking because a lot of folks just never use it or really need to it may get used once and busts up feels like all hell and is inside just broken up crap can feel fine when spinning fast enough and slow you hear it or maybe feel it without using the parking brake. Clue is it doesn't work at all do NOT adjust it go looking if that type and redo it.
Any if this type needs to be used and checked periodically is not a routine request to do or ask to have done upon service intervals. It's a truck so assorted rear ends and brakes could have been used or ordered when new need to find out,

The ABS issue he describes is very common in GM trucks

At the age now the suggestion is check all the common stuff - about any vehicle with some issue of any kind unless a code sends this to a direction just pointing out a common neglected area of many only so much is noticed so slow caught my notice,

I'm assuming he knows what an ABS activation feels like. I'm sure he has felt it before since he is in New York.

? There's ton's of NY that is NOT the city. If from (can't know this now) where it spent most of the time Long Island out of NYC area or oddly lots of real estate to Up State is good just harsh Winters all will salt but could be lots less few people lots of road except to and from Capitol nobody recalls is Albany is just West of MA's western border.
Just me - why would you deal with this monster in NYC itself or have it so long? Not likely,

Re: ABS activates intermittenly at speeds less than 5mph Sign In

After a little research found out that my truck has a front wheel only ABS system and replacing was not as involved as I thought, aftermarket parts were pretty reasonable.

Re: ABS activates intermittenly at speeds less than 5mph Sign In

? I don't know of a 2002 with just front ABS? Rear could use one sensor not at the wheel covers both. RABS = rear anti-lock brakes. Not the point until it works as intended - that's all,

No, you're truck does not have front only ABS. There is no such system.
