Do all models of the Golf Mk4 use the same brake booster/servo? I have a 1999 1.4 petrol VW Golf M4. My brake booster is letting air into the vacuum so I know I need a new one. My mechanic is quoting around 400 euros for an original new part but I have found new originals online for about 150 euros on sale, not to mention various second hand parts for less than 50 euros. Really, I need to make sure that the part I buy will fit my car.

Does each model of the Mk4 (petrol/diesel, TDI, 1.4/1.9, etc) have different brake boosters or is it a one part fits all kind of thing?
Do you think it would be safe buying a second hand brake servo instead of getting a new one?
Do imitation parts exist which will do the same job for cheaper?

Thanks for the help

First, have you totally diagnosed this as the booster itself or a leak from close by possible still? A check valve perhaps or hose to it?
Parts: IDK - could be different specs and mess up the show so must know. Try using VIN # get a real OE part # and match up what you can find that way is what I'd do if in question at all.

This is a US based site and fine you are here just harder to know for sure for you by me anyway. Export vehicles could have assorted specs not as much if sold to the US so can't be sure for a part,

Just remember that most repair shops won't warranty their labor if you provide them with your own parts. That means if you get a used one and it is defective, you have to pay the labor again. That is how it is here in the states, but not sure where your at.
