post locked   Brake fluid leaking around bleeder valve.

When I open up the bleeder valve and pump the brakes to bleed them, brake fluid seeps out around the threads of the bleeder screw. When I torque the screw down, it doesnt leak at all, but as soon as I crack it open, it starts to leak. Another thing to note is the bleeder valve screw has literally no resistance when screwing it. I can screw it in and out with my fingers and can torque it down with a wrench, however, when I crack it loose, it can be screwed in and out with my fingers. It was doing this with the old screw valve, so I replaced it with a brand new one. The new one does the same thing as the old. This is the front driver side, so closest to the master cylinder. The front passenger side has resistance when screwing and unscrewing as if theres a sealant or something keeping the threads taught. It also doesn't leak around the threads.

Any idea what this could be? Is there some kind of sealant I should put around the bleeders' valves? Please help

No big deal.

The bleeder screw is plugged up. Now find a small drill bit that fits inside and use it to dig out the crud inside the bleeder. You may also need a pin to clean the little hole on the side.

As HT said you can drill out the bleeder nose (exposed) usually by hand. Know the pointed tip unseen has another smaller hole may be plugged there.

Will drive anyone totally nuts how small details you won't find new for sure without an old one! Then match it up but you've lost fluid totally out.

Too late but prevent this with caps over them IDK is/was OE should be prevents a lot of BS with them.

BTW threads are not meant to seal at all are not NPT RATHER REGULAR type the seal is that pointed end,

T

I tried that. The bleeder screws are brand new as well. From what I can tell, they go all the way in and seat. Both sides. The passenger side had more resistance to it, as if the threads were meshing with some kind of seal. The driver side screwed in easily with my fingers

Forget about how easy or hard is screws. That means nothing.

The bleeder is plugged up. If you can't clean it out, then just get another one.

It's simply not possible if you have fluid when the bleeder is removed but not when it's installed. It's just a plug with a hole in the middle. If one side of the car works and not the other, then swap bleeders and see what happens.

What part is this in? If a rebuilt something many will just defeat the old one for some funky repair hole with another bleeder.

Within the year TWO rebuilt calipers for a (doesn't matter) Volvo something just didn't behave? Were stripped out newly redone!!

Why? IDK in that case I didn't do it at all by a new tech at my suggestions in person he'd take it on using my parts outlets no less.

Diagnosed here ahead of time then he wanted to do it by himself described it but that case it leaked no matter what he did??

Place gave him two more to another rebuilders products.

Common with brake items or watch out for cloned new crap!

This is primal as things go sorry it's giving you a hard time.

Wouldn't matter what or where - equipment of assorted kinds have done the basic idea since forever.

If the item (you didn't say) was cross threaded it would fight to do by hand once loosened would never be right.

Been at this with Hammer long before this joint together for well over 100 years of hands on some things are wildly unusual this just may be a seriously cross threaded hole for a bleeder??

I've never checked but do not know of a tool to make a new hole for a bleeder is tooling for making new or now cloned junk making me ill too with the little I'm still doing 95% my own collection of assorted ancient machines :-)
