Loud squealing from brakes Sign In

Hi I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. For the past 3 or 4 weeks I have been hearing a very loud squealing noise from one of my rear brakes, when I apply the brake the noise goes away. It also usually does not make a noise unless I have been driving a while. I brought it to the dealership immediately when I first heard the noise. They said that the rotors were a little rusty but that my brake pads were fine. They also said that they drove it and could not replicate the noise. I also wanted to mention that some days when I do drive to work it does not make any noise and some days the noise is constant until I get to my destination. The brakes feel fine and the car feels like it is driving normally. It is frustrating and the noise literally is so loud it turns heads. Any idea what it could be? Could it be something besides my brakes? Thank you.

Re: Loud squealing from brakes Sign In

It can be rust from a vehicle left long enough for light rust even overnight sometimes gets into the brake pad material makes noise like all hell is loose.
OE stuff almost never does that the aftermarket parts can and do more often still work fine, appear nothing really wrong.
They really should come apart for close up inspection of the parts hope to find tell-tale signs that's why or toss both rotors and pads for know better stuff.

Other is just maybe if pads are NOT really worn much they did and do TMK use a fingernail of metal when pads are low make noise so annoying you'll do something about it at the low point of wear.
If that little "screech" item is bent or wrong position for any reason it will do that right away, never, or way, way too early. When and if just that I would just bend those out of the way if really known fine and don't count on those as your warning to do brakes.
In short, they need to come apart to get a better clue or see it not just a wheel off look at.
If just normal rust gets in pads you can choose ones that will not do that,
