Turn rotors or replace rotors? Sign In

I've got a 2016 Kia Optima with 40K miles on it. The dealership says I'm at 30% on my brakes all the way around and says I need new brakes and rotors turned. I've checked with a couple other places and one guy said that all rotors made after 2007 are so thin that if you turn them once, you'll be back in within 6 months or so needed to replace them. So he recommended I just go ahead and replace them all so I'm not having to do the brake job twice. A bit of research on the internet says that you really don't need to turn your rotors unless they're wobbling or you're getting a pulsing feeling when you push on the brakes. I'm not getting either of these. So if there's any brake experts out here, what should I to? Get a brake job without turning the rotors? Turn the rotors when I get the brake job or replace the rotors when doing the brake job?
Thanks for your input!

I'm going to disagree with both of those answers.

Newer vehicle rotors ARE NOT thinner, BUT they are so cheap to buy these days and labor is so expensive, you don't save any money by resurfacing them. The other factor is that once a rotor has been cut it loses a lot of it's ability to dissipate heat and easily leads to rotor distortion from overheating.

As for whether you should do anything with the rotors, the answer is yes. A new pad needs to start with a new, flat and not glazed surface. If not you end up with uneven braking and all kinds of brake noises.

Thanks for the subject line says it all.
Rotors get tossed should be reasonably priced and insist "balanced" if you can ask that on line buy or in person.
That's lost if you "turn" it a lost thing as pads wear (metallic-all) wear the rotor too. A few a rea PITA to remove if you are in trouble with that I'll expound,
