   I like a dummy bought a 02 gmc sonoma i did test drive it and brakes felt weird he put new back brakes on so all in all i did ask specifcally in the master cylinder was going out he says no i got it home the next day i started to bleed the front brakes after the first time we pumped the brakes and fluid was released from caliper i had no pressure what so ever in fact as they are to the floor you can hear air coming out behind the brake pedal is this a booster or master cylinder problem,

A bad booster and a bad master have totally different symptoms. The lack of pedal could be a master but needs to be diagnosed further.

The air sound you hear could be caused by the boosted but would not cause a low pedal. You should concentrate on getting the pedal back before worrying about the air noise.

This needs to be checked out by a professional. Repairing brakes is not something you learn by trial and error.

Oh my - again. There's a lot of things to do about servicing rear brakes on most of these trucks a web's worth of different types of rear brakes. You really can't just toss pads in most of these so easily and get away with it will CAUSE the next problem.


Do yourself a favor and really target just what you have. This could be 4X4, HD or not? Parking brake is inside rears, hidden raises all kinds of problem if you so much as touched it - meaning the seller who said they messed with it probably gave up.


Get help or see exactly what you have here. Low pedal is the problem for now as Hammer said not the hissing sound just yet.
Take a look and note the rust scene if any it's pushing 18 years old if the style I'm thinking this is doesn't like any rusted brake parts - lines, bleeding thru ABS of which type and so on.


Find out just what you have and what was done so far and don't fake it brakes just have to work properly,
