I notice the copper washers for brake hose on the caliper have a flat side and a curved side , is there a preference ? Does one side go against the steel of the bolt and caliper and the other go against the brass of the banjo fitting ?

That's just because they are not as well made as some but should be fine if they FIT where they go. Look at old ones and see the grooves where they will be squished in place will take on the imprint of those surfaces for a super strong seal. Pretty universal rule is that you do NOT re-use old ones that already have the imprint of grooves. Any brake hydraulic anything that seal pressure that was fixed or replaced should be carefully inspected for leaks once you achieve pressure again absolutely NONE is acceptable. This concept is old as the hills has worked very well also sold bulk if you do a lot, Tom

A little trick for getting them to seal without stripping which can happen easily. As you are tightening them, tap the head down with a hammer and each time you do that tighten it a little more. It causes the washer to seat properly without stressing the threads. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Dr. Donut: Always good to ask when in question avoid a disaster speak for myself glad any were on my own stuff not another's and caught it this or whatever. I do worry about quality of some things like this found some with a part of the circle like it missed being stamped to a washer so have tons on hand. You'll hear it here. Don't allow room for mistakes with things like brakes. Most not possible but having a flex hose off for any reason make sure it's not pig-tailed/twisted any type of vehicle however those are used and do NOT allow calipers to hang by the hoses rather support them with what works. Should be NBD but glad you ask - silly stuff over simple mistakes sure can be a disaster, Tom

I figured they put the grooves on the hose fitting for a reason and they made the washer with a dome on one side for a reason too , maybe not , it's all in the details , spending a little more for OEM parts can make a difference

Dr.D: It is and isn't the world. Just the way a pure copper washer is stamped out if you see it is cruder than it could be doesn't really matter the thickness does so it matches the holes in that bolt is passing fluid through it and back is centered and sealed by a "malleable" heat tolerant metal which copper is. The groves are made when you install it not when new forms its own unique seal. It's then you really shouldn't use one again if only taking one apart and keep it without doubt the identical old one in correct position again it will seal again! Just don't do that is the universal suggestion. Said these, other things are one time use as I said new oil drain plug gaskets some are and or once were always supposed to be replaced never are - really when was the last time you saw anyone do that? You do when they leak is NOT the time or might later even if nobody touched it - uggh. Avoid that disaster and don't let it happen. These should come new with new calipers and or maybe with new brake hoses or sold separately as said at least once buy them by the 100 box of them or a couple at a time. It's just a silly thing that if a total failure that vehicle could lose all braking by surprise even worse is a rolling weapon is worth a bit of attention to detail I hope and trust you agree, Tom
