2000 Chevy Cavalier Sign In

I bought a used 2000 cavalier 2.2 L, I recently was checking the oil and noticed that my drive belt was very worn. I also noticed a bolt had worked it's way out, so i left work and picked up a new belt and went home, I was able to tighten the bolt but not replace the belt that day. A friend replaced the belt the next day. Since the belt was replaced the car began to run a little rough and now it has a loud knocking sound like it is low on oil but it isn't. What could have changed by replacing the belt? the car ran great before the belt change.

Thank you,

Ron

Not sure what bolt was holding what that you tightened? Time to check pulleys that can be bad is when belt is off and they can spin freely with no lash.

Some belts just have an attitufe about making a variety of noises with nothing else wrong. If plain water on sprayed on belt alters or eliminated the noise temporarily the belt itself new or now may be the cause or a bit too long for self tensioner to keep within normal ranges,
