It's only there for a couple seconds. Any suggestions what might be causing this noise. The vehicle is fairly high mileage (~225,000km) so I wouldn't be surprised if something is wearing out. Oil is thicker and engine bearings need oil fast upon start up is taking a second or two (count that it's a long time) suggests if you expect cold lower oil viscosity to low limits listed in owner's manual for this exact vehicle. The first # listed means thinner in lay speak the lower it is. When I said cold start I just meant that it's been sitting in a heated garage overnight. When we start it up in the morning, it makes the rattle noise. I guess maybe oil is draining out of the engine and maybe it takes a second for it to pump back up? YOU can tell with either a warning light or gauge on dash how fast it builds up or light goes out. Test with KOEO (key on engine off) see the available warnings light up on dash. If somehow it doesn't work that's an issue. Warm or not in a garage as engines wear it takes longer for oil pumps to get oil to critical parts. OTHER! It could be an accessory that's belt driven? If so next time with a helper open hood and listen while helper starts it. That is exactly what is happening but it still indicates excessive wear in the engine.
