91 Integra ABS pump Sign In

91 Red Acura Integra GS.Just before I replaced the rear hub on this thing (it was quite noisy), the ABS light started coming on occasionally. I chalked it up to the rear hub going bad so I did no further investigation on it. Hub was replaced - ABS light still came on. Then a strange noise started coming from the right side of vehicle under the hood. It sounds like a belt rubbing - but all the belts are on the left side of vehicle. The ABS fluid reservoir was low - so I filled it up. ABS light went away - noise did not. It does not make the noise when vehicle is stopped. and I have determined that the noise is coming from the ABS system. The only component on ABS that I can think of that would make a noise like this is the ABS pump. I know its expensive - but is it hard to replace? It doesnt look like it will be very fun to do.

ABS hydraulics are not a DIY job in my opinion. They require special tools and a lot can go wrong if the wheels aren't bled correctly. Also, the ABS system uses very high pressure, best to have a shop handle it. Sorry, it's not a simple system.

Thank you for the response - i have learned that there are special tools to work on this system - not something I'm willing to invest in, and as you said - not a simple system to work on. I consider myself a little more experienced the regular DIY but I don't think I'm going to try to tackle this one.

Just a note: When the tools cost more than any possible expense of a repair let the shops do their thing.

I can't tell you how much I've spent on tools and equipment to even start to fix any problem.

My own investment is probably on the low end at $40,000.00 bucks.!! It's a tough biz, T

Re: 91 Integra ABS pump Sign In

Hey gacyota. If the ABS pump was the cause of the noise, it would be a vibration type noise that is the same sound that is made when the ABS is engaged. So if it is a belt rubbing noise, I would be looking somewhere besides the ABS system.
