Audi gurgling sound Sign In

2001 Audi A4 1.8lt with 105k miles.

When I start my car and begin travel (not until I start in motion) I hear something like a gurgling sound coming from the engine area. Kind of sounds like water babbling through a pipe. Goes away after a few minutes. No dashboard indicators are problematic.

This just began a few weeks ago. Doesn't appear to affect car performance, but disconcerting nonetheless. Any ideas?

jrueckert; Just an off the wall guess; If you've been using the A/C lately, check to make sure the condensation drain isn't plugged. Or, if it's been raining where you are, be sure the cowl drains aren't plugged.

To add to Lorens suggestions. Check the coolant level & make sure the system is full. If you get air in the system you can get this type noise but usually it's more noticable in the heater core area........

More to add to the guess list: Some carss used hidden restriction for heater input line to slow the flow thru core and a side effect was it was quieter. If recently noticed AND heater hoses were replaced it may have had one unseen and not replaced.

Air (doesn't take much) if in system can make a noisy slosh sound and still not overheat but should go away when properly full so check that.

Water caught up anywhere as Loren said is a possibility and know that use of A/C can make quite a bit of water - may take a turn or something to find it's way out or can even wet passenger's floor if drain is plugged,
