Car won't start

. It has a small nick in the oil pan and was leaking oil. We went away for a month, came back and wife took the car to the store about 6 miles roundtrip.


Wow, not sure who to blame here. You knew it was leaking oil through a hole in the pan and yet after it sat a month just hopped in and drove it.


The oil idiot light came on an the way home.

And the reason they call it an idiot light is why? So even an idiot knows that there is a severe problem that REQUIRES immediate shutdown of the engine until the fault is corrected to prevent severe and expensive damage.


Next morning she told me about the oil light. I checked the oil and it didnt register on the stick. I put 5 Quarts oil in next morning and car will not start.


This thing barely holds more than 5 quarts. I had my girl read this and her jaw dropped, and mind you she does not even know how to change oil herself. Time to have a chat with the woman. I told my girl if she ever blows an engine for being out of oil I will never buy her a vehicle again. She checks it every time she fills the tank.

It will not start but did turn over slightly. Battery appears good and does not require jump (I tried it). Looking under the car I noticed oil running out and it appears mixed with water.
Did we blow the engine? any suguestion


Yes, you blew the engine. Suggestions are as follows:

1. when you know you have an oil leak, get it fixed.

2. before driving a vehicle with any sort of fluid leak, check your fluids. Odds are good that they will be low. 6 miles is obviously more than enough to cause thousands of dollars in damage.

3. Teach your woman how to check all fluids. If you do not know how yourself consult your owners manual or throw a few bucks to your mechanic to give you a rundown of what you need to do. Also familiarize her as to what idiot lights are and why they are there.

4. If woman chooses to ignore #3, get a garage sale bicycle and tell her this is the last transportation you are paying for as she clearly has no common sense and you are not willing to pay out a bunch of money for something completely stupid like running an engine out of oil. This is going to be a very expensive repair that could've been solved right away for a couple hundred by replacing an oil pan that needed to go in the first place.

I make a decent amount of money fixing cars, and while I definitely get more for changing an engine than an oil pan I really hate seeing people do things like this. Such a small thing leads to such a big bill and it is so wasteful.
