It's a Hearse..It makes noise!

So sayeth pretty much everyone in my hearse club. However, even though I know next to nothing about car repair, I do know that when they make noise they normally aren't "just making noise". They are making a noise for a reason, meaning there's something wrong, something is going bad or has already done so, needs adjusting, etc. If you guys havent seen my intro post in the Antique Car section, I own a 1966 cadillac hearse. She's making a whole host of noises! Most of which she has made ever since I got her, which was almost 2 years ago now. There are a lot of noises that for some odd reason none of the mechanics I have taken her to have really given me any clues about. Let me start with a knocking noise which only happens intermittently, and usually when just starting out from a stop or when under a heavy load. I did some research and it appears it may be something called pinging. It kind of sounds like a rapid popping noise. Another noise Dusty makes is a winding up and down noise which gets faster the faster she goes. Thats as best I can describe it. I believe it has something to do with the transmission, because she has a pretty bad leak. One time I went to move her and the noise turned into this horrifying wail, and as soon as I put fluid in her it was better. I don't know if her tranny needs to be rebuilt, or maybe theres just a seal that needs replacing..I dont have a jack/jackstands to get her up and examine it too well, but hopefully that will change in the near future.. Let's see...I believe the valves are chattering. But I dont know, it could be a completely separate issue in addition to chattering valves because a mechanic told me thats not what it was, but that he had no idea what was causing it. Its this weird scrapey noise that is best heard when I let off the gas. It sounds as though it is coming from underneath the car though. It can be heard while she is moving, but when I let off the gas it is really noticeable and is almost as though it gets worse. I thought for a moment it could be something to do with the brakes, because I'm pretty sure one of them is maladjusted and is just constantly rubbing, but it also happens when the car is in park so obviously it's something else. I'm sure someone can give me insight into at least one of these issues. If I could figure out for sure what was causing them then I could figure out the best course of action. However, as I said, the mechanics I have taken her to thus far have all been unable to tell me. Maybe I just didnt pay them enough! lol..
