Knock sound in front wheel

Hey everyone, new - and glad to be here! I've got a 2005 Honda Element that has been making a knock/pop sound in tighter turns to the left/right, and sometimes traveling over rough road surfaces. I took it to my mechanics the other day (great guys, always done good work, trustworthy. They put it on the lift and immediately saw that it needed new CV axles, and apparently the work that was done replacing the engine and trans a year ago (by an insurance assigned shop, not them) was done fairly improperly - using standard instead of metric bolts, loose bolts here and there, loose rear motor mount bolt, etc. They put on the new CV axles, rethreaded and replaced all the improper bolts. It does seem better, but I am still hearing the knock every few times in street-to-street type turns, mostly in the left front wheel. To me, it sounds like a quick clunk or pop, like something loose sliding against a stop. Not a grind, or anything that lasts longer than a half-second. Any ideas on what else might be loose or making that noise? Old shocks? I'm going to call the guys at the shop back, of course, but I was here for something else and thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance! Matt

Sounds like they didn't inspect it close enough. There is something else worn out or loose under there and they didn't look hard enough. They should know that a C/V axle won't make a noise like that. It could be ay number of things and it needs to be inspected while on a ramp type lift. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
