Just had new water pump put in my olds 99 intrigue 3.5 and it's already squeaking. What could be wrong? Thanks.

Why did you replace the water pump? Did the belt get contaminated with anything? Belt tensioner functioning correctly? Could be the seal of the pump making noise, but really hard to tell without listening to it in person. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Probably got coolant on the belt when the first one started leaking. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

replaced it because it was making horrible grinding noises. Yeah, might have gotten coolant on belt. Squeek now is constant and definitely there.

With the engine running and the noise present, get a spray bottle with some water and spray the belt. If the noise immediately stops or changes, the belt is the problem.

Okay the spray method didn't quite work because of the nozzle and the wind and tight space so I cheated and poured the water on the belt and I got total silence for about 10 seconds, and since I poured it directly on the belt and not on the pump, I'm guessing the test worked and it's the belt that's the problem. Let me know if you think I goofed up.

No, I think you're right. Change the belt and make sure all the pulleys are clean and there is no more coolant leaking.

While belt is off spin the pulleys as it's a good time to rule out plain pulley bearings if even at early stages of going bad, T

Not if a pulley slipped to stop turning at all when so soaked! Belt off you'd sure feel that, T

That was the whole purpose of wetting the belt. It eliminated the pulleys and bearings as possible.

I guess you've never seen a sticky pulley or item stop short when wet. Could be any of them new or not and a chance to feel them with no belt so what's the harm? T
