Noise on start up

I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra S 1.8L , no this is not the one i did the headgasket on that one is fine. This is another one.
When I start the Sentra up cold it has the rattle like all the oil has drained out of the oil gallery for 2-3 seconds, like when you do an oil change. If i start it up anytime up to an hour or so its fine. So I don't remeber this doing this before. I had not started the Sentra for 3 years had the battery in my house and i did not want to start it up w/ the oil that was in it even looked bad 3 yrs ago. so i costed to my back yard and did the oil and filter. So sometime this week i am going to maybe replace the oil filter and do an oil pressure test. If anyone has ALL DATA is the oil pressure switch where i test the pressure and what is the specified pressure at what RPM.I wanted a WIX filter but RA sent me one I have never heard of and when went back to their site it said WIX/ Baldwin. i have never heard of a Baldwin oil filter .
so here is my list of maybes
1. rubber drain back valve leaking in filter
2 is there a check valve in the oil pump..if so bad or stuck?
3 bad oil pump
4. bad bearing like a plain bearing on the crank, spun or something
once started runs as quite as can be has 150k miles so it still has many miles to go

My guess is a timing chain tensioner is not holding pressure.

Oh my Tractorboy:
Plenty of comments on this.
* That "death rattle" from changing an oil filter if all was routine you avoid by filling oil filter first before putting it on IF YOU CAN, SOME YOU CAN'T.

* YEARS of sitting with oil that looked bad before that!! What on earth would you expect? Don't change cold oil nor allow that scene again if you get a chance to mess up like that at all again.

* Why on this planet would you us RA for just an oil filter for a Nissan? A cheap one in stock now was never locked down anywhere for this was in order a few bucks unless you are mega miles from anywhere a stock item. Match up old one that fit to make sure don't force them.

* Pushed items, like auto adjusting lifters for whatever they are for can and will finally lose oil pressure - 3 years would do it! It ran, new oil now? It might snap out of it with some plain warm ups and use then change oil out again soon and repeat - OK rated cheap oil is still detergent a good bet.

????? This happens to brand new unsold vehicles and machines left in these conditions depending on what (this a car) it's just parts or painstakingly go thru them one by one as they show up??

New stock things get recycled can't be sold as new would have the same issues including tires still no miles IMO think about whether you want to even try or another exactly like it use this for some parts that could be useful and make one out of two might be practical??

Not there hard to know if worth this effort now,

interesting , there is no gasket on either the block to tensioner or the spring loaded plunger. it could leak, i will check that.

You're not looking for a gasket leak. The tensioner runs on oil pressure and has a check valve to retain oil. If it drains down it has to build up pressure again to tighten the chain when started.

the only oil filter i can fill is the one on my 3.5L malibu. the filter installs perfectly vertical. The oil filter on the sentra is on the back side of the engine, and any spilled oil goes right on the braiding of the flex joint on the exhaust and i smell burnt oil for a few weeks. I usually put a peice of cardboard under the filter, the oil filter installs almost horizontal'

why? please explain why draining bad oil and replacing is worse than starting a car with old oil?

i had an order for other itams and the oil filter was one of the items ..sorry don't understand the rest of your statement WIX are one of the best oil filters I assumed the Baldwin was a WIX re-branded.

the sentra is DOHC and has bucket tappets no hydraulics ie..hydraulic lifters if i might digress took me a while when i was a teenager and my Dad had a Lincoln that had solid lifters and the holes around the circumference of the oil filter I could see inside and the actual filter while my Chevy had a peice of rubber blocking this view ...of course my Chevy had Hydraulic lifters.

it was at the end of the driveway, then rolled on to a concrete patio. i kept the tires inflated, usually the rotors de-rust with a few applications of the brake pedal while going 30mph

the interior looks really good, someone used armor all on it all the time. I did have to replace the lower driver door hinge. and also the rad fan assembly.

it does need a driver side inside boot on the cv joint. The other sentra i have i had to do the same, something with the shaft being shorter , i think it has asharper angle if the wheel drops into a pothole especially if the strut is well not a strut anymore , i also replaced both struts on my other sentra.

yep when a car sits for any lenght the tin worms start to attck it.

i like working on cars to me they are like a grand jiggsaw puzzle.. i take in all the homeless mowers, weed wackers got 9 STIHL BR600s form a guy that does landscapping down the street put them all on the curb or that people push to the curb. they seem to not be able to connect that they leave their mower out in the yard all year long and it won't start after a few years. i still have the mower my dad bought when i was 12, its gone through several decks...darn tin worms. I don't use it anymore only 8ci i have a 12ci B&S that someone discarded out by my sisters house.

Why? It's probably going to drain more and better if warmer. If bad enough over time it already did its damage up to a crap shoot what luck you'll have.

Over time oil can drain so completely higher parts are dry of any, even so much as a smear.

Side topic/question: I was trained the most by a Ford mechanic up thru all ranks to finding design flaws for them on to teach it.

So you've said the obsolete word "tappets" and "solid lifters" for a Lincoln? Just what models did that of what decade? I go back OK to about 1961 in person vehicles of limited assortment. Last known solid lifters I tended (may be lots of others) was that famous Mopar* "Slant Six" was its nick-name,
