Oil leak and odd sound...

I don't know too much about cars, so will do my best to explain. Any tips or advice would be great, as I don't want to go to a mechanic and have them hit me for more than I really need I recently noticed that my 2005 Suzuki Forenza was leaving small oil spots on the driveway. I opened the hood in the morning before work to look and all seemed mostly normal aside from a few small oil drips collecting down near the body body part of the car. So, on my way home from work, I noticed that my car seemed louder than normal but only at low RPM and lower gears (its an auto trans). It almost sounded like the noise a muffler tip or exhaust leak would create, but coming from the front of the car and only at the lower RPM in 1st gear or so. When I opened the hood, I noticed that there was a decent amount of oil leaking from the engine case, along the seam where the top cover attaches. It is mostly on the drivers side as well and a little in the front. I looked down and saw the puddles were building up and looked like oil, but I couldnt exactly tell...liquid may have a slight red tinge to it (rust or trans fluid?). So, aside from the noise, it seems the oil is leaking out while the engine is running and then once parked for the night, it slowly drips down. Someone I know said it may be the valve seals/gaskets have gone bad allowing oil to leak out. Does anybody else have any idea what it could possibly be so that when I talk to a mechanic, I can give him a little better info. Thank you!

You have a whole paragraph telling me about oil leaks and engine noises but I didn't read anything about you ever checking the oil level. Are you waiting for the engine to blow to find out if you have enough oil? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Oil level is okay, checked yesterday. Oil was changed 2-3 weeks ago with inspection. Also no smoke or lack of power, no grinding, knocking, tapping, etc associated with low oil. The sound is a low pitch rumble only at low RPM ang gear. Sounds similar to an exhaust leak as I said.

Something is leaking pretty heavily so maybe you should check the trans fluid, coolant and power steering fluid to find out what you are losing. As far as the noise, you'll need to pinpoint it down a little better as the where it's originating from. Maybe you can record the sounds and upload it to youtube and post the link here.

First post here said you don't know much about cars but somehow need to explain what might be wrong to a mechanic! Huh? If you don't trust a particular mechanic why would you go there? Just tell them what you notice wrong and let them tell you what is needed to fix it. The "friend of a who knows" thinks it's this or that crap if so good let them fix it. I suggest not waiting with a leak and noise together you are probably wasting time to get this fixed before it gets real expensive or a disaster, T
