Question about brakes Sign In

The other day i was driving my 1999 Ford Taurus and i lost control of it. It does not have ABS or TCS. I was going down hill and hit a patch of sand and my Taurus went sideways. I went to hit the brakes but the pedal was down to the floor, it was locked in place until the car came to a stop. Is that supposed to happen?

Re: Question about brakes Sign In

I didn't think you could get that car without anti-lock brakes which can do that - nice safety feature madated by gov't because people couldn't possibly figure out how to stop a car - which is true too many times. I've pushed them on purpose on ice with just right side on ice and left on wet pavement and your foot will fall to carpet and you get nothing after a buzzing pedal. This might have been normal for that car but I'd check it out!
