Hi hoping someone can please help. When driving my car there is a squeak coming from the front right wheel which increases with speed and gets louder when I turn left and stops if I turn right. This is a constant sound no matter what speed. Its sounds as if something is rubbing. But above 20mph if decellarating when turning right there is a thumping noise, also changes with speed. The thumping stops if the brakes or accelerator are pressed. Im completly lost. Ive had a look and cant see anything rubbing or loose. Both of these noises started suddenly after I got it back from it's yearly nct(mot) If anyone could help or point me in the right direction to look it would be greatly appreciated. Car is a 2005 opel vectra with 89kmiles.

Quote ">The thumping stops if the brakes or accelerator are pressed <" This car not sold by that name to the US where site is based. Not the point with this. It should be a Volkswagen based type of engineering if you dig into history of the name - I have. It can only be a strong guess is you plain have to rush to get this fixed or rule out bearing(s) one or both front wheels. There shouldn't be any play and still be wildly going bad can and will just last a while unknown or go insanely bad in a few hundred feet blow up and lose control of the vehicle. It could be a tire flaw, brake flaw or something else but "MOT" test or not has to be found at least know what it is caused by. Web isn't the best at noises and this one may be tough even in person by a real tech but really need to get right on this and not quit till it's found, T

Thanks for the reply. I have jacked the car up and there doesn't seem to be any play. I also ran the car while up in the air and couldn't replicate the sound. So it only happens when there is weight on it. It really doesn't sound like the sound you'd usualy associate with a bearing.

RIGHT/Correct : It's load dependent so it isn't going to show itself so easily. If (hope not) it is a bearing they start at a slight noise or feel and progress. One side can transfer the feel or sounds to the other making it harder. If nothing is seen with front wheels off and brakes apart for evidence it may take removing hubs to tell which bearing it is IF IT'S THAT AT ALL?? Just went thru one of these (another totally type of vehicle) was just a noise/feeling I WAS A PASSENGER NOTHING ABOUT BEING IN THAT VEHICLE WAS TO BE A TECH AT ALL and said that noise is a bearing! That took a year to show up in 2 miles went totally nuts THEN AND ONLY THEN HAD FREEPLAY is feet within wheel falling off - all associated parts and all. Hope I'm all wrong and it's just something simple but that has to be found. THE ONE I DID WAS SO BAD THEN WORSE EVERY 10 FEET IN MY PARKNG AREA WAS AFRAID TO MOVE IT ANY MORE WAS ALLOWED BY OWNERS TO GET THAT BAD! Refresh - no play at first just the symptoms. The failure can be a year or feet of use. Just not easy to find or predict how long you have. Reason I just fear this is it's so fresh in my mind and know how fast these go from a noise/feel to disaster would help me if right there impossible on the web to duplicate it but if elusive like that take it out you'd feel the bad part in your hands not on the vehicle you just can't duplicate the load of steering and braking is the reason why so hard to pin down some of these. Good luck. I really fear these with difficult symptoms at first and unknown how long before it explodes. Off this exact one: keep a tray of ball bearing in this case at my side (right now) to show folks how little was wrong by loods those parts rolled down a driveway just turning in with just faint symptoms before that!! Don't quit you have my warning, Tom
