2000 Kia sephia over 100k miles hello, i have a 2000 kia and recently about 4-5 months ago is had a soft humming noise while driving at highway speeds, it has gotten louder resently as i have been putting more miles on it than normal. normal being less than 20 miles a day, and now it is going over 200 miles a weekso the humming noise has gotten noticable now, i got a kia book and it says it could be the drive axels or the wheel bearings but i want to be sure before i tear it apart because it is my only car and i live way to far from any bus routes. the noise is like a slight humming or rubbing and it gets louder at slower speeds any info or ideas would be welcome or if you need any more info. i should add that it doesnt pull to any side or vibrate it just hums, if i had a working car radio i could fix it by turning it up it isnt that loud yet but needs to be fixed

It's really tough without being there but what you are describing does sound like a bearing.. Just make sure to check you tires. The tires can develope a "cupping" or irregulare thread pattern that will sound exactly like a failing bearing on a test drive..........

Hi JRobert. Often times an axle bearing will hum in the steer ahead position and turning on one side. If you are driving forward, if you turn the steering wheel to one side and still hear the noise, turn the steering wheel to the other side. If the humming noise stops, it is an axle bearing. Steve

Yep, what he said.......... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
