noises from my chevy truck Sign In

I have a 2001 chevy silverado 2500 with 96000 miles. and when i first turn on the truck and pull out of the drive, it makes this horible screeching noise while turning. it sounds like a goose honking is the only way i can describe it. but after about 10 mins of driving if that it goes away. However it always comes back if the truck has sat for a good few hours or overnight. any ideas?Pirate

chad; This 'sounds' like a faulty serpentine belt. Could be a weak tensioner. In the mornings, you'll have moisture in the air which gets onto the belt. After it dries and gets warm, the noise will fade or go away. You should be able to duplicate the noise by spraying a fine mist of water on the belt. If so, replace the belt and check the belt tensioner.

Ditto: If this has two belts (might) one is out of sight down low to be checked also,

Re: noises from my chevy truck Sign In

OK so I checked my beltsw and its not coming from under the hood. The sound is not constant. If I am driving on flat ground, and dont turn the wheel, it does not make any noise. But its when I am turning, while driving. But as I said before, after maybe 10 mins, it goes away. It almost sounds like a rusty shock or really old leaf spring. I am not sure. I just dont want it to be the control arms or accually anything to do with breaking down the front end of my truck in the drive way, i dont have time for that. Also I have noticed that if I warm the truck up for like 10 to 15 mins before driving, the sound is not there... Any other Ideas?

Arggh! Grease everything and spray rubber bushings, check stabilizer bar hold downs and pins the works! I'd even change out PS fluid for synthetic approved fluid. Shocks can be sneaky and with a 2500 it's not so easy to just bounce it in place?? Keep looking,
