I have an 02 Olds with about 70K miles. Last month the Serpentine belt was replaced. My Car has begun to make a whinning noise, that gets louder as the car accelerates . The noise is coming from the engine area. Any help would be appreciated on identifying the problem. Thanks!

Some belts even new do not seat properly on pulleys and make noises. If you just spray some WD-40 on the traction side of the belt and it shuts up for a while that belt is probably no good. It shouldn't strand you but should be replaced with a belt specifically designed to be quiet. You have to ask for that. This could also be a pulley or anything driven by the belt having a bad bearing. If it stays with the test you need to find which item is at fault and fix that. No belt, no go! T
