thumping noise 94 bonneville Sign In

I have a '94 pontiac bonneville and the other night right after driving over a bridge my car started making this loud thumping noise. It sounded like it was coming from the front drivers side tire area. There were no problems with steering control or anything just the noise. I assumed it was ice or snow stuck in the tire area because we just had a blizzard come through. But, I drove to work today and the car was still making the noise. I checked for ice and snow and I didn't see anything plus it's warmed up and should have melted. The noise stops when I stop or turn left but it's pretty consistant otherwise. Are there any suggestions about what it could be? and if so about how much will it cost to fix it?

Check the wheel well area. Sometimes the shroud (plastic or metal protector) that protects the inside of the wheel well has a fastener or screw come loose. This can cuse it to rub when the tire is rotating in a certain direction. If you hit any ruts or pot holes going over the bridge this could have happened. Also check the inner part of the tire (brake area) for foreign objects.

If nothing jumps out at you there check the front brakes. You could have a loose pad. Since the noise goes away when you step on the brake it seems like a brake pad is moving around inside the caliper. Stepping on the brake applies the pressure and the pad stops moving, hence the noise disappearing upon braking.

I looked under the wheel area and I can't see anything out of the ordinary but I also wouldn't know if I was looking right at it. The noise seems to come and go somedays it's bad some days it only does it once or twice. I think I'm just going to have to have someone who knows what they're doing get under there and check it out. Thanks so much for all of your suggestions :)
