Auto cassette radio

I have a Auto cassette radio. It is Pioneer KEH-35 The paper with the
rest of the numbers is torn off so I cannot read the rest. It is for a '92
> Ford Explorer. I would like to get a new CD player but all I have to play
are cassettes. Old school, I know. Most of the time it will not play.
When messing around with it, I found that when I press the volume knob in,
it will play until I release my pressure. I wish you would tell me the
best way to fix it and the best way to access the area behind the volume
knob. I looked at probably 20 junkyards and pawnshops but found nothing.

Going to give you heads up. Most of the regulars in here don't get into solid state or radio repair.
There should be a lot more than 3 wires coming from the back of the radio. Maybe take a picture of the wiring at the back of the radio and post the link to the picture(s) in here, so we can have a look.

Cassette? Get out of the 80's and into now. You can download those same albums for cheap to your computer and either burn them to a disc or load them into a cheap mp3 player. You can get a dirt cheap cd player from a pawnshop.
I thought I was old school on tech for still using a typewriter on occasion, but using a tape player was something I gave up in the 90's.

It sounds like you may have bad solder connections behind the volume control, or the volume control itself could be bad. The pioneer did not come stock with a ford explorer, it is an aftermarket radio. The Keh-35 is probably a detachable face. You can try removing the face and clean the contacts of the back of the face and the sub panel with a q-tip and alcohol or a pencil eraser.
