Car Audio Volume Problem

I have a strange problem with the audio system in my Barina. When I start my car and turn the radio on, the volume is turned right up. It's blaring so loud the sound is distorted. It usually only does this when the car has been turned off and left overnight. Sometimes I can't turn the volume down either so I have no choice but to turn the radio off and have no music playing :( What the hell is going on?? Is it something with the speakers or the whole system or a loose wire?? Any help would be much appreciated.

There could be a few things with this. Is it an aftermarket stereo or the standard holden one? If it is the holden one, you may need the volume knob looked at, it is is aftermarket, there could be a loose wire in the connection of your volume buttons or knob. I am not sure I can diagnose the problem without actually seeing it. I don't think this one is DIY, you may need to take it to an Auto electrician.

I've got a '99 Barina (3-door) w/ same problem, has only been happening on really cold mornings/evenings - blew out my front right speaker & is really annoying. I though that it might be a fuse or something, but then again I'm not really that familiar w/ this stuff. Any thoughts (that don't involve an auto-electrician & lots of $)?

The original problem from over a year ago? Did you take Dr. Electrics advice? I think I'd have replaced that unit a long time ago. Loren SW Washington
