Hello. The problem I have is that my car player skips. It skips regardless of road conditions. There is some connection with the kind of CDs that are played, but those CDs play fine on other players that I have. So there is definitely a problem with this specific head unit. The player I have is Panasonic CQ-C9700U. Why does it skip? or a little history: It skips because Circuit City installed it and messed with it. After they first installed the whole audio system in my car (head unit, speakers, amplifier, sub) there have been many problems. First all the speakers and amp blew up, then I came back and they replaced them. Then there were many problems where head unit wouldn't always play. So on... I've fixed all the other problems (the speakers were wired incorrectly (that's why they blew up), speakers in the back were screwed into the metal frame of the car), however I couldn't fix the skipping problem with the player. My attempt to find the problem: I installed a new player recently and now I have this one at home just sitting there. I took it apart today and I don't see anything obviously wrong with it. The mechanism seems to sit well apart from circuit board, so they don't touch. Nothing is obviously wrong with the player. However, I don't know much about players and why they would skip. Solutions? So, why could it skip? Any suggestions?

it is possible the laser lens may be dirty. try cleaning the lens with qtips and rubbing alcohol. be very gentle when cleaning the lens. using too much force can scratch the lens, then you would have to replace the laser assembly. the lens will be a clear glass shaped like a bubble. on the laser assembly.

In addition to cleaning the laser bubble as the op stated, you may also have a connection issue in your wiring harness for that unit as well. Rob Link deleted....not allowed

I have a cheapo head unit that skips when it gets too hot. This is a combination of playing time, and the fact that it is located over the engine. Not sure if this is your problem, but I wanted to point out that it doesn't have to be mechanical or electrical.
