check and see if you have a door and headlight chime when you leave the keys in and door open or headlights on. If you don't, check the chime fuse in your fuse panel. Also check and see if there is a fuse on the stereo itself and make sure you check your actual radio fuse. I had this problem and I was clueless and then found out that I needed to replace the fuse for the door chime. Hope that this helps you and if it does, consider this paying it forward!!!! hope it helps!!!

You may have pinched the power wire in the cradle when stuffing it back in. It will detect power as the whole cradle will be active. If you have it earthed properly you should be ok. The fuse would of blown. If the earth was good enough...(worst case scenario) You could have blown your head unit. Check power wire to make sure its not stripped, bent, or broken, then check earth wire and finally negative. Let me know what happens.

PS - You say you have a multi meter, do a wire continuity check on your power wire. Just to make sure there are no internal breaks.
