Trouble shooting Suburban pioneer. Sign In

I have a 96 suburban with a 4 year old pioneer deck, the other day I was driving down the road and heard a loud momentary hiss followed by silence.

The deck appears to be functioning properly other than the silence, about this time I noticed my headlight indicator has turned green only when my head lights are off. I don't know if they are related but I had been running my AC for the first time of the season that day.

Fuse issue maybe?

Stereo stuff is not my thing but basics are. How was this wired in? Adaptor or hunting for wires to power it? IMO the thing is dead so far.

That green light icon is probably just telling you daytime running lights are on nothing more. Not sure why that would be involved? If a wire to headlights which are empowered all the time was tapped in to this was a hack installation from the get go,

I am not sure that they are related I noticed the light for the first time (owned a year now) when the radio malfunctioned.

It was a radio-shop install originally ( i know this from the receipts) it was in the vehicle when I bought it.

You'll have to find out if the head unit ties into an external amplifier. At the amplifier, if it has one, you can disconnect each speaker channel one at a time to see if you have some sort of short going on in one or more of the speakers. That would be a start.

Just about the green headlight icon. You'd think I'd notice but not. My own 97 Chev truck has same dash basically and gauges as 96 Suburbans. Light is on when headlights are OFF indicating DRLs are on and they are. Turn ON headlights and it goes out. If it is erratic on yours the bulb is probably part shot or who knows but it's supposed to be on when headlights are off. Key in run position or running of course. I really doubt that has anything to do with the stereo,

I second your fuse theory, start off checking the vehicles fuses themselves. Some decks it is possible for the fuze behind the head unit to burn and the unit still appear functioning. Other decks will cease any function if the fuze goes. If you want to post a model number of the deck I would be happy to dig around see what I can find. I dont personally think your indicator light correlates.
