Great forum guys! If it weren't for communities like this, even more commercial electronics would be scrapped.

So... I'm a reasonably smart guy that just did something really stupid and want to know if anyone out there has enough technical experience to tell me what part of my receiver I just smoked.

I drive a 2.0 liter 1999 Ford Contour and got a hand-me-down (working) JVC KD-G510. I wasn't given the connector that goes into the back of the JVC, so I bought a harness for my car and got little insulated ends to put on the pins on the back of the JVC.

My problem began when I used the diagram on the bottom of the unit to connect the wires. I should have used http://resources.jvc.com/.../94/GET0267-002A.pdf

I damaged the JVC because I connected the 12v yellow wire to (unused) pin 15 on the back of the unit. My biggest mistake though was connecting the black Chassis ground wire to my front right speaker negive pin on the back of the JVC.

When I turned the accessory on I smelled the bad smoke...I should also note that I had forgot to put the 15A fuse back in the JVC.

So then I used the manual linked above and correctly wired the unit.

The problem is that I get no sound. The unit still powers on and appears to function but I get no sound.

When I put my crappy factory stereo back in the speakers do work.

Are any of you guys electrosavvy enough about car receiver repair to tell me what part or sections (generally) I should look at.

For example should I be looking/testing at opamps or transistors or would I have blown diodes/caps/resistors?

I know that no one will be able to say "yeah sure replace Resistor#45". I have experience with some circuits and am wondering how the repair pros troubleshoot these.

Thanks in advance. I know I'm stupid for doing what I did, I'm just hoping I can learn something from the experience.
