I have an 02 chevy cavalier with about 108k miles. The speakers have quit working, but the CD player and radio displays all still work. The rear speakers went out first, several months ago I think, I didn't notice them right away because I usually have the sound faded to the front. Then a few months ago, I turned the car on and the front speakers weren't working. I tried turning the radio off and back on, didn't work. They came back on the next time I turned the car on. Finally a few days ago it seems they've gone out for good. They were working when I turned the car on, but went out after a few seconds. I turned the radio off and back on, they worked again for a few seconds and haven't worked since. The speakers never made any buzzing or static noises. Does this sound like a short? Or maybe the wires came loose? Or is the whole system done for? Any advice or suggestions would really be appreciated. I haven't tried taking anything apart to look at it yet, but I can try if that will help with diagnostics. Thanks!

The fact that they come back on when you restart the system is quite strange. Usually "shorts" will kill your speakers until you fix the loose wire or reattach the wire to the connection. I am thinking this may be your unit. If your speakers work fine, but then die, and after a restart, work again. It sounds like the source is your head unit. You may want to check the wiring at the back of the unit, if that looks fine it could be an internal fault. In which case it is cheaper to get an new one than to fix it.. Have a look at the harness and get back to me.
