whistling sound when angine running Sign In

I have a 2000 dodge dakota 3.9 2wd---I have installed a new amp,new wires, new cd player---everything works & sounds fine until I start engine--then I can hear a whistling sound & as I rev the engine the sound goes with the engine---I have made sure I scraped the frame where the ground is connected & all connections are tight.I also ran the audio wires(RED/BLACK) on the opposite side of the car away from the pos.& remote wires.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Like I said the system sounds awesome until I start the engine.I guess this is considered engine noise?

Sounds like you're getting Alternator whine noise....

They make alternator noise suppression filters....

Here is one site to check out...or just Google Alternator noise suppressors

hey man thanks, but now I have a different problem. My stereo was working until I drove my car.I noticed when I applied the brakes my sound went completely out in the entire truck.I still have power but no sound.Do you have clue what it could be,I have all wires color coded & connected correctly.I did notice the driver door speaker was not working after I installed new headunit, however it was working fine before.thanks for all your help on thisCool

I'm just guessing here cuz you didn't say one way or the other but it sounds like you may have cut the factory connector off & wired it direct, hopefully that's not the case. Most decks you can buy a harness kit that will plug directly into the factory plug and then into the deck.

If you are going to wire direct you need to have the factory & decks wiring diagrams. You can't go by color because the colors don't always match up..........

Re: whistling sound when angine running Sign In

That's good about the harness...... I'm a little unclear about the sound. Does it come & go when brking or went out completely and doesn't work now?

Real quick if you're running a seperate amp you may try disconnecting the amp and see how the system works with out it. If all the problems disappear then you want to focus on the wiring & grounding of the amp. I know a lot of amps are good for picking up engine noise and there are inline filters you can install like Jim had mentioned.......

Been a while since I've messed with any aftermarket system, I know some of the old amps have servicable fuses which if you blew you would lose your sound....... I guess you reach old phart status when you like the factory stuff cuz it sounds great & gets as loud as you want it.............Sly

Re: whistling sound when angine running Sign In

yes the sound did go out completely when i applied the brake. However I have disconnected the amp completely & tried to reconnect wires again from head unit to the stock harness.Upon powring on the unit I would get a crackling sound then nothing,I can see the unit working but no sound. The door speakers are not the stock speakers, they are aftermarket kenwoods. They all worked fine until I tried to hook up all the new stuff & then I noticed the driver door speaker had no sound, now none of the speakers have sound...I'm an old fart to but am almost deaf so would love to hear some music before I can't for good....:)
