I just bought a 2003 Ford Taurus SE, it has factory keyless entry but no remote came with the car. I bought a new factory remote but it will not program after doing the on-off ignition thing 8 times.
I found out that the car has an aftermarket remote start on it, it's a Carbine Plus 1500 with a 556s interface. I tried unplugging everything on this system but the factory remote still will not program.
Do I have to entirely remove this Carbine system to get the remote to work? I would like to stay with the factory setup and i really do not want a remote start, all I want is to lock and unlock the doors and pop the trunk.
Any help greatly apprecited!Smile

Re: 03 Taurus Factory Remote Sign In

Not sure on the exact set up of this remote start system, but this system has a remote and keyless entry feature. It's possible the factory system was bypassed and the aftermarket system put in place for controlling the lock actuators. Really difficult from here to determine if the factory key less entry system has been bypassed or not.

One thing that I can ask to confirm if the system was bypassed is is do the door locks still operate from the switches with the aftermarket remote start system removed?

Are you sure your car is even equipped with factory keyless entry? It's kind of odd that they added an aftermarket system.

Re: 03 Taurus Factory Remote Sign In

To be honest, I don't recall if the switches worked or not with the Carbine unplugged, I know the doors did not lock when I turned the ign key to the on position like it did when it was connected.
I just don't want to take everything out and find out that nothing will work. I would have to unplug it again to check the switch operation so when I do that, I'll let you know.
Thanks for the reply.

yes, it is equipped with keyless. When I cycle the ign key 8 times, the doors will lock and unlock at the end as they should to indicate programming mode.

I would call the dealer the the VIN# and they can tell you what it's equipped with.

Re: 03 Taurus Factory Remote Sign In

If the door locks cycle, that right there tells you the GEM is in control of the door lock actuators.

If this GEM is indeed optioned for Keyless entry, you may have a problem with your new transmitter. Did you check to make sure the transmitter has a battery in it and that the battery is good?

Re: 03 Taurus Factory Remote Sign In

I ordered the factory remote online and I did confirm that it had a battery but no, I do not know if the battery is good. It is a new remote.

Re: 03 Taurus Factory Remote Sign In

Hopefully it is the correct remote. Just because the remote is new doesn't mean the battery is good. It could have been sitting on a shelf for 9 years.

I'll call the dealer to confirm keyless entry and check the battery before I do anything else, thanks.

You also might want to confirm that the remote is the correct one for the vehicle.
