I have an '03 Chevy astro van with a climate control problem. The fan speed only blows on the low settings and completely stops when you put it in the high postion. Also the output is stuck in defrost, meaning air is only comming out of the upper dash blowing on the windshield. As you move the selector and pass by the max/norm a/c then bi-level/floor it will, as I can hear it, turn the a/c compressor on and off but the air output will not change. Thanks for your help!

THE high speed for the fan gets its power from another source through the high speed relay and I believe the relay on this year of van is part of the blower motor resistor assembly. It’s bolted to the heater plenum under the hood, left of the blower motor. I’ll check when I can get to my manuals, later on when I’m back at the shop (I’m at home right now). If I’m mistaken I’ll post its proper location. OK I checked and the resistor is part of the resistor assembly. The fuse for the high-speed relay is a 30 amp fuse; you’ll find it in the under hood fuse panel; it should be labeled FRT HVAC. Check it but most times the problem is this resistor/relay assembly As for the air always coming out of the defroster; the vacuum line that supplies engine vacuum to the mode switch is likely broken under the hood. This vacuum line is made out of hard (black) plastic and becomes very brittle and easily breaks from engine vibration. It connects to the intake manifold close to the throttle side; comes across the front of the intake, over to the right inner fender to a round vacuum reservoir. I guess if you check for vacuum at the reservoir with the engine running that will tell you whether the line from the engine or the one heading to the dash is the one to chase. One last thing; this vacuum line looks a lot like a black wire; so don’t be chasing the wrong thing. LOL Dan. Canadian "EH"

Good Day Thank you for the valued information. I bypassed the corroded/ faulty card with a 12vdc relay and works in high speed only. Been ok for some time now.
