1986 Plymouth Reliant front speaker problem. Sign In

Hi. Anyone know how to replace the front dash speakers on a 1986 Plymouth Reliant ? Does the dash have to be removed ? Thanks ! trog2016. ( 1986 Reliant SE, station wagon, 2.5 liter. )

I don't have any pictures or instructions but the labor time to change the speakers is half an hour so it doesn't look like the dash has to be removed.

2 speakers, driver side and passenger.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the speaker cover grilles by prying upward at the rear corners of the grille with a blunt edge plastic or wooden tool.
  3. As the rearward edge of the speaker grille comes free of the pad, insert your fingers under the exposed grille surface and push up to disengage two posts at the forward corners of the grille.
  4. Remove the speaker mounting screws.
  5. Lift the speaker up and out of its mounting hole. Unplug and label the electrical wiring connectors to the speaker.
  6. Remove the speaker.
