1989
Buick
Century
Recently, i was in a small fender bender that took out my front left light and so i replaced it with parts from a different car of the same make, model, and year. It worked good until a day later when lots of the electrical shut down. The front lights quit, along with the interior lights, the electric door locks, and the radio clock resets itself to 12:00 everytime the car starts up. The brake lights still work as well as the blinkers, cruise control, and the map light just to name a few. The Anti-Lock brake light also stays on all the time while the car is started which has kind of puzzled me. Haven't tried anything yet except check the fuses. Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

Re: 1989 Buick Century Electrical Problems Sign In

So we tried the fusible links and they were all good. The problem was the cable connector that comes from the battery. I don't know exactly what it is called but it was the problem. We thought that somewhere connected to the battery was the problem since the clock resets everytime the car turns on. That showed us that the connection to the battery was flawed since it still worked when the car was running. Sure enough, we were playing around with some electrical when we wiggled that connection and the door open beep started to beep. We then checked it and the wire had shorted and melted the rubber coating as well as the connector. We are getting a new one and the car will be fixed. Thanks for your help!!
