After filling the gas tank I started the car and drove 15 feet to a parking spot for the mini mart at the gas station. Was inside less then 5 minutes. When I came out the car would not start. Not even turn over. All other electrical systems are working. There is a faint click coming from somewhere by the firewall on the drivers side when I try to start it. I unhooked both battery cables and let sit for 5 minutes. Still nothing. I have had this car for 8 years and have never had any problems with starting and there has not been any indication that there was a problem. Any ideas?

Sorry I thought I put that in the subject. It is a 1996 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 liter 24 valve 6 cylinder.

duper; My first thought would be to have the battery tested and make certain that the connections are clean. A battery can have enough voltage to turn on lights, ect., but not have enough amps to crank over the engine. The battery will have to be fully charged to test it. If it's okay, then have the charging system and starter draw tested. Loren SW Washington

Sorry, I missed the title but still needed the engine size anyway. Since it was just driven minutes before, I doubt it's a battery problem. Do you have a theft alarm system in it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It has a factory security system but I do not use the remote for it. I manually unlock the doors. It was unlocked and the drivers window was down about halfway. I just went to go check on it and it started right up. I brought it home and let sit for 15 minutes. It started right up again with no problems or strange sounds.
