I have a 1996 Subaru Legacy right hand drive that I use on my mail route. Yesterday while on my route I had my amber light plugged in and was using my four way flashers, I noticed a couple of times that the windshield wipers and the windows seemed a little slow and then all of a sudden my tachometer needle started jumping up and down, the radio turned off and everything electrical just seemed to stop. I was stopped at a mailbox and thought maybe I had broken a belt but then I noticed that the car was still running...all of a sudden everything came back on and I assumed that it was all okay. When I returned to the post office and turned my car off my lights would not go off, I went inside and finished up my work, returned to my car and found that the battery was dead. This was about ten to fifteen minutes, after a jump start I drove my car home and attempted to turn the lights off manually and by turning the car off but nothing would work, I finally just unhooked the battery cable. Does anyone know what might have caused this and how to fix it. Thanks.

? Guess: Headlight switch is bad. Also but probably not the issue at hand is a car with a dead battery in 15 min needs a check of charging system and possibly a new battery. Most would last that long at least is all was well, T
