1996 dodge intrepid 3.5L 166,000 Sign In

Alright, I bought this car about 6 months ago and have been driving it without problems. Last night I parked the car and decided I need to run and get some stuff. So I went out to the car, turned the key....nothing. The lights in the car were on and everything. I threw a new battery in, cleaned the terminals, and still nothing. Than today I moved a couple of fuses around, tried starting it a couple of times and it started. Turned it off and it didn't go again. I am thinking that I might have a bad fuse, bad solenoid, bad starter, or bad ignition switch.
any suggestions?

I have no clue why moving fuses would help but most importantly you should only have the correct amp fuse where it belongs.

They are made to "blow" when needed and if the wrong amp fuse is in there you may just burn up something that was protected by the fuse and you would be in deep sh*t over that, T

I only changed the fuses with fuses of the same amps. Could this problem be because of the lock key cylinder?

I went outside to take apart the ignition switch to check if the lock was broken. I decided to try and start it. I held the key and it turned, did nothing, kept it in the start position than it turned over and started. I moved the car ahead, and turned it off and on about a dozen time, it turned on every time I turned the key. I called the nearest dodge dealer they said it was probably the ignition lock.
Does that sound like the right problem?

The key and the ignition itself are two different things.

If key doesn't turn the lock cylinder is the likely problem. After that it's remotely telling the electrics of the ignition what to do or allow, T

What do you believe the problem is than? The mechanics at the dealership said that the ignition lock is a common problem in the intrepid, but I don't quite believe that is the problem that I have. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The next time it happens you should take a test light connected to ground and probe the S terminal of the starter solenoid. Have an assistant turn the key to crank. If the light glows bright, replace starter for intermittent open solenoid. If the light doesn't glow at all, shift into neutral and repeat test. If the light now glows, replace faulty transaxle range switch. Let us know what you find.
