1997 GMC Headlights

I have a 1997 GMC Sierra Z71 with headlight problems. The headlights quit working, checked all the fuses under the hood and in the dash, all good. Replaced the headlight switch on a Sunday and everything worked, turned the headlight switch on Wednesday am and they had stopped working again, replaced switch again. The running lights, brake lights, tail lights and turn signal lights all work with the engine on and the headlight switch in the off position and the middle position but when the headlight switch is turned to the headlight position the headlights do not work, on normal or high beam. The other lights still work. Could this be the dimmer switch on the column and how difficult is this to replace?

According to my diagram, you should have a yellow wire that feeds the headlight switch and the dimmer switch. This is the same circuit. This wire comes out of the daytime running lamp module, terminal D. Start with checking for battery voltage on this wire. If it has voltage going in to the switch and nothing coming out, the switch is bad. If the wire has no voltage present, check for power and ground at the daytime running lamp module. Terminals C and H. C is the pink wire, battery +. H is the black wire, ground. Unfortunately, the location of the daytime running lamps module is not clear in the diagram. It is behind the driver's side knee bolster. The module is either black or aluminum colored and has cooling fins on it. Your best bet would be to trace the yellow wires from the switch back to the module. Good luck, let us know how you make out with this. Steve
