hi, i have looked every where and even unplugged and replugged everything under the dash cleaning every plug as i went along. the problem came about about 6 months ago when i returned home from work. as i was exiting the car the chime started going off as if i left the lights on or the key in the ignition. i double checked thet i still had the key in my hand, closed the door while i sat inside and the chime went off. as soon as i opened the door again, it started chiming again. i know it isnt a "door ajar" chime as i neer have an issue with that. it is starting to get expensive. if i dont use the car for more than 4 days...the battery is dead. im not sure what it is doin to the batteries but i have had to replace it twice in the last 6 months because it would not take a charge. any suggestions would be great. thank you in adance

You should be able to follow the noise to it's source. These chime modules usually are tied to other functions also so you likely won't be able to just unplug it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

i have traced it back to a box thats about 5 inces long and 3 inches wide, 1 inch thick...there are plugs on 3 of the sides...if i unplug any of the wires plugged into it, the sound stops. not sure if the box is the problem or if something else was causing it. im pretty sure this box cant be cheap so id like to be possitive before i go and replace it thank you for your reply

There are only 2 ways to determine that 1) You can have an electrical tech troubleshoot the circuit to determine the cause 2) I can loan you my crystal ball ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is it a slow chime or fast chime? Slow chime with door open means the key is in the lock cylinder. Fast chime (4 chimes per second) means the headlamp switch is on with the door open. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You don't want to unplug the GEM. Sometimes the key switch goes bad or the lock cylinder doesn't open the key switch. Pull the lock cylinder out and see if the chime stops. There is a small hole on the bottom of the lower steering column cover. Turn the ignition to run and put a pick up through the hole to push the retaining pin in at the same time pulling the cylinder and key out. Next take a flat blade screwdriver and turn the cam in the lock cylinder housing, so the ignition is in the off position. See if the chime still going off. Inspect the key chime warning switch on the lock cylinder. When you insert the key the contact on the switch should close and open with the key out of the lock cylinder. If they don't move properly or the contacts are damaged. Then you should replace the key switch or lock cylinder depending on with part isn't working. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Feel both heater hoses going to the core at the firewall and see if they both get hot which would indicate coolant is flowing through the core. If it is, you will most likely be looking inside the heater box at a flap that is stuck in the AC position instead of the heat position, either from a problem in it or a lack of signal from your heat controls.

ok, i replaced the ignition switch and all is normal. as far as the heating problem...both liners going to the core does get hot. is there an easy way to get to thaqt little flap? i have tried to look it up and they all just say they have to remove the entire dashboard...is this correct?
