I am a new automotive student and am having trouble with a 2001 Cadillac Catera, 3.0L V6. I put a new(er) engine in it already that has 80000 miles on it. The car was brought in for an engine replacement due to lockup from overheating. The new engine works fine but the cooling fans will not turn on and the engine still overheats. I have checked the K 52 relay, sensor and associated fuses according to the diagram from Mitchell.com with the test light. The K52 relay and sensor has fire to it but the fans will not turn on. I have also researched the trouble codes and that is how I got to this point. Could it be there is an open in the wiring somewhere between the relay and sensor? If so, how do I go about fixing it? We have not gotten into electronics yet and I am not knowlegeable of these systems. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

What are the codes? Does the fan work with A/C on? Did you run power and ground directly to the fans to test them? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

? Do fans even move manually - us a stick or something not your finger. Power and ground getting to them? Engine swap could have busted or messed up a ground? Test - not just look, T

PO650 and PO412 The engine was already running hot and when the A/C was turned on something started burning (smelled like wire insulation to me) We have run power/ground to the fans and they were operational. Thank you for the reply and assistance.

Those codes don't have anything to do with the fan. Your next step is to determine whether it's power or ground that isn't arriving at the fan motor.
