You folks (Hammer) may recall that I had an issue with the display cluster of my 2002 silverado after I removed some fuses in the under the hood fuse box to troubleshoot and correct no +12 on pin 16 of DLC connector.

I have been dealing with the goofy display ok for only affects a few lights and the gas gauge stays on E and the security says on constantly no matter what you do. The one annoying thing that also started happening at the same time, is that the battery goes down after a couple of days though charge is always at 14 volts. So with all equipment off I used an in-line ammeter and found that its starts off with a 1.2 amp current draw for about 20 seconds, then goes down to 0.625 for about 25 seconds and then its draws only .023 (23ma) which I figure is the stupid security light that always stays on since the fuse block tasks were done. Now , I held the in line ammeter in place for a good minute plus after the battery current went down to 23 milliamperes and current remained steady at .023 amperes, did not do it longer so maybe the current goes up again as time goes by or from the electronic scanning since security light stays on. From experience I know that .023 amps should take a longtime to run down battery, guess I could do the math to be sure. Does anyone know of any suggestions or likely causes? Does anyone have additional schematics other what Joe has sent me??? P.S as far as the display issue itself here is what another fellow (JOE MIZENKO ) thinks "either a bad instrument cluster or faulty bcm" but my main concern is the current leak. Thanks

Anything up to 50 ma is acceptable parasitic draw and totally normal. The other draws you saw were the timers that need to expire so what you have is completely normal if that's the way it acts all the time.

The security light is likely on because the dash cluster is part of the security system so if it's not the original cluster from that vehicle or has a failure problem, that would explain that.

I assumed that might be the case with the 1.2 /.625 amps, and 20 ma is nothing but thanks for confirming that. However, why is the new top of the line Walmart battery going down when everytime I check it at the battery post I get a solid 14 volts. Any thoughts on this?? BTW this is the second Walmart battery. I went up to the top so call MAX logo.

It shouldn't be happening. Something has to be changing in your findings at one time or another. You might try disconnecting the battery when you park it to see if it has any effect on the problem.
Make sure your getting an accurate measurement too. Ammeter between the battery post and cable unless it's induction and if it is, make sure you have ALL of the cables inside of it.

Yeah I got the ammeter right, yet I'll try my old simpson analog instead of the DMM meter I was using so I'll have additional verification. Good idea on the battery disconnect, only thing is I drive it almost every day and I live in a stupid travel trailer for temp housing. I'll also get some clip on leads to leave the meter on it longer and stare at it. My only thoughts are to check the alternator charge lead to ensure it has not become an resistive connection (corroded) which could allow a 14 volt reading at the post but poor current so batt does not charge at normal rate, right? Has that ever happened??

If your reading 14v at the battery, then the battery is being charged, at least at that moment.
