Hello. There was recently a fire on the passenger side of my car. The door panel is done as well as the wiring harness on that side and any other electrical on the passenger side. I brought it into the dealership and they said all the harness' in the car, front to rear, would have to be replaced even though they were not damaged. My dad was a mechanic and said that was BS. My question is the dealership trying to rip me off or do all the harness' actually need to be replaced if only one of them needs to be replaced? Also they recommended me not driving it to another repair shop because they said the airbags could deploy even though i drove it to the dealership and it was sitting for a couple of days with the battery connected and it didn't deploy. What brought up a red flag is when they suggested i trade in my car and purchase a new one from them.

What on earth caused this fire if you care to share that? Why if no provocation isn't it under warranty or insurance? No insurance co. would pay for a whole car harness if isolated to one door. IDK - smell a fish on the whole thing, T

a 2014? first thought is - insurance? I would agree with their overly cautious advice regarding not driving, litigation lawyers etc. maybe get a second opinion- another Nissan dealer have it towed.

I don't know that this car even has separate harnesses. It's probably one for the interior and one for the exterior. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It was a hot propane torch. My boyfriend works construction and left it in the car and that is how it happened. They quoted me for a main, front and body harness. I honestly can afford to have my insurance company total it so I'm trying to see if it's a necessity to replace all of them. My dad said no, dealership said the have to because it would jeopardize the integrity of the wiring system.

you have a 2014, insurance should cover a 2014 so does dealer have a 2014? their price is what ins will pay of course minus the deductible...its all negotiable. the math Einstein would surely help with the deductible - the rental or transportation expense during long repairs, as well as unforeseen damage expenses etc would make the fast deal (insurance claim) reasonable ...

I really don't understand why they would have to replace every harness on the vehicle if only one harness was damaged. If you had a fire in the door panel that melted the harness in the door that is serviceable as a separate harness, you shouldn't have to replace the engine room harness. Without actually seeing what kind of damage was done to the harnesses on the vehicle, can't really tell you if what they are telling you is justified or not. Honestly, as the other stated, your insurance company should be able to cover the repair cost. I'm sure the cost of the harness(es) and labor isn't going to exceed the value of the vehicle. That is what insurance is for anyway. Let the dealer and the insurance company battle it out. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

poster claims there is an expectation that ins would total vehicle SO the damage must be more than a door issue.

I think it's time to get rid of either the car or the boyfriend................. Sounds like you'd be better off without either one.
