86 Gulf dies after removing radio Sign In

1986 VW Gulf 5 speed, had Alpine radio/CD removed it and capped off wire ends. Car will not start. This is the second time it has happened with a VW. Also happened with the 86 Jetta. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or any knowledge on how to get it to start? Have checked the spark plugs, battery and fuses. Used probe to check ground and came up negative.

Re: 86 Gulf dies after removing radio Sign In

Guess only: In that you even needed to cap off wire ends suggests that an adaptor plug/interface was never used to use car's existing plug and perhaps just random poking for power etc was done and messing things up.

For lack of possibly knowing how it was wired in the first place I'd probably go looking at how it was fed power to see that connection,
