Greetings and Salutations, Hoping you guys could help me out before i have to get a shop involved, As stated, have a 86 chevy c10 w/a 305 HEI, and getting no spark at the plugs. Originally tried several things on This Thread I have checked all the fuses, the ignition wire has 12 volts, replaced several components and still getting no spark, bought and installed a new distributor, and still have no spark at the plugs. Verified TDC on #1 when installing. So thank you in advance for any advice you might have... Dan

Didn't re-read other thread you know it's not spark. GM HEI, take off cap and check spring loaded carbon pile thing in center of that. Look at wires to inside bottom of distributor module there has either 2 wires each end or three at the other. Make sure plugged in well and none rubbing. OUtside look where wires go in, plug and all the clips that hold that on can snap or not be tight. I actually don't recall checking that module but kept spares (cheap then IDK now) couple screws try a known used one kept with me for road calls. Put in new later if you know the person or not buy another. Odd was never the pick up coil but were lots newer. Other is distributor shaft bushings can wear out just way too much rock rotor see and feel how much side to side if not pretty tight out of range. Ask again if you find that. Hmmm - got used ones then still good were dirt to free make sure they were good or redone ones new bushings and module pay more if you had to. Almost all were just that for no spark but a list of other things involved just too easy to check just that stuff, T

Have you confirmed everything on the high voltage side like rotor, cap, wires? Are you sure you installed the coil and rotor tab correctly? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Is this TBI or carbed? If it's TBI, do you have injector pulse? Does the check engine light come on for bulb check when you first turn the key on? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

? Lift cap up with helper hold that out of the way. Does it turn while cranking. It's an '86 open to lots of maybe things that can happen. Anyone just have distributor OUT of this thing - that too. A couple but not all if oil pressure switch doesn't work they won't run while checking bulbs just cranking it should show oil pressure or light if the case go out, T

Need to know that - carb or injected. I just smell it could be either?? Dang trucks could be a year off I wouldn't hold out for OE stickers still readable, T

Has a carburetor on it, and yes the rotor spins when trying to start, and all the lights buzzer's and warning lights work just fine when you first turn the key

OK: Just how are you checking for spark? I believe you would both check at a plug wire, in line see it flash or not. Other I think is the separate wire to dist that is brown I think (from memory sport) is to test RPM while under the hood I do have a dwell tack (most wouldn't know what one is) but also think that will blink - use an LED test light. Back there too is the dang oil pressure switch. Don't ask why I question that it stuck me for a week or something back when. If one wire, fine. If complicated thing it's just possible to cut out spark no guarantee on that. Had to do something now with carb known in a collision you had to have a kill for the engine so it didn't just pour fuel out still running and smooshed up. IDK if you can see stickers as said could meet Mexico's standards looks identical or for Canada would be metric MPH and ODOMETER a give away. Close but the two had different specs. Calif. would be all on it's own vs 49 state then MA where I am jumped in on that fun, that isn't! Said look for wires inside they can rub that module if even got hot blew like a flash bulb or no way vacuum advance ones turned and wires rubbed - said already. Coil had a ground strap of metal is it there? Look for it inside cap. Other - be easy on those caps, turn exactly 1/4 turn to release and know it's clear to remove. It sets back with one tooth to index it make sure it's always right on that. Last now will be clean off the timing marks on damper below up front even a good old Chev with timing chain can jump time so far off it wouldn't run shouldn't stop spark at a plug wire if rotor turns, T

The oil pressure switch has no effect whatsoever on the running of this engine. You have to be missing something in your testing.
