91 Acura Integra ignition lock

I have a '91 Acura Integra with an automatic transmission. When the weather gets cold and I drive a short time (less that 20 mins.) it takes a few minutes to remove the key from the ignition, after turning off the engine. The gear selector lever is also locked in the 'park' position during this time. This is not the case when the weather is warm or I drive more than 30 - 40 minutes. It seems to be related to the temperature of something connected with the safety feature that prevents the key from being removed with the gear selector out of 'park'. The gear selector can be unlocked by inserting a key into the emergency release slot, but there is no corresponding release for the key. I have to wait a few minutes until whatever is locking the key switch wants to release it. Any ideas on how to fix this or work around it (remove the key quicker)? Thanks.
