92 Z-71 electrical Bad Ground Sign In

I did install a new fuel pump in this truck some months ago. All has been fine until recently. Stop & directionals are either not working or working occasionally. I can see some "feedback" when one signal is on, the other side will also blink dimly. Stop lights are not as bright as they should be. I suspected a turn signal harness so I changed that. Same problem. I checked the trailor plug that plugs into the truck harness, seems o k. I'm looking for a groung that I might have missed. The one by the filler is good, and the one back at the taillight harness is also good. Bralelight switch? When I pulled the truck out yesterday, lights were working. Later the same day, nothing. Today, nothing at first and then as described above.

When you installed the pump, did you drop the tank or lift the bed?

You left the ground off or broke it at the left rear of the bed. The harness has at least one ground that attaches to the frame that you would have had to remove to lift the bed.

No, it is connected. Pretty heavy gauge wire also. it's located back where the taillights have a plug. Un plug this and insert the trailor plug. I did check these.

That is the ground connection for the tail lights so if you know that is good, then you either have a problem in the harness or in the light sockets themselves.

My brother drove the truck one day last week and I was following. Lights were working fine for about 5 miles. Raining out. Stop lights came on nice & bright. Then all lights went off. No running, turn or taillights. Will keep digging and reply.

Make sure it's isolated to the back lights only or you could be looking at a switch problem. There might be a big harness connector somewhere too

Well, that's what I was thinking and is why I replaced the turn signal harness. All indications led to that. If key on, in reverse (5 speed), left signal on, right light blinks ever so dim, but it blinks also. Back up lights also blink very dimly.

Re: 92 Z-71 electrical Bad Ground Sign In

O K, It was the spare tire's fault. Had to take the tire down, (it was loose) and discovered where the tire had chaffed the ground wire. Could not see it unless the tire was out, even then was hard to find. Snip snip & new ends, polished frame to ground, new ground washers and everything is fine. THANKS!
